A kind of sad story set in Beautiful Italy. With some beautiful scenery including the beautiful Violante Placido. Aaaaaah! That's Amore'.
An assassin hides out in Italy for one last assignment.
not recommended; very boring, slow and pointless

Again I borrow this one from the Library. It's that Placido woman. That gorgeous Italian treat. So womanly,So Beautiful,So Violante. The only kind of woman I could get at my age is one I'd have to pay for. And buying flesh ain't right. Lv. 8/30/11 @ 9:24p And a few semi veiws after.
Father Benedetto: All the sheep in my flock are dear to me. But some are dear the most. Especially those that have lost their way.

Add a CommentNot bad, but not great. Fine Clooney, decent plot. You feel the pain of a life wasted but never really get inside the mind of the protagonist, a professional killer who seeks out of his chosen profession. Worth watching.
There are several scenes prolonged nudity - only the female, of course - once of which includes "rough sex". Basically, this is porn, but for some reason the HPL has no problem making the movie available to just about anyone. With what? 49 copies in circulation.
A movie that's not for everyone, evidently. I felt it was taut, suspenseful. A paid assassin who has had enough - wants out, and is wanted 'taken out', on the run. Kill or be killed. No loose ends. No honor among thieves. I particularly enjoyed the beautiful, scenic Italian cinematography, also.
This is the worse movie I've ever seen, boring, slow..........my wife fell asleep. I feel sorry for all the moviegoers that went to watch this piece of crap.
lets just say it is not clooneys best movie or even a very good movie if your bored and want to see some nice photography well thats about it
Jack is a gunsmith who bullds custom weapons for assassins and his unique lifestyle is the main focus of The American. After an assassination attempt on Jack's life he retreats to a remote Italian mountain village. There Jack takes a job building a special rifle for a mysterious buyer. In the meantime Jack decides to quit the business and happens to fall in love with a local Italian prostitute. Other than beautiful scenery and a surpise ending there is little to recommend this movie.
The American stars George Clooney who is usually a decent actor. This movie was enjoyable and a bit different from films that one usually thinks of as 'action'. The movie moves at a slower pace which is appropriate for the setting, a small European village where the protagonist is positioned to work on a project for his employer. What is most compelling are the relationships that he forms in the village; a priest, a prostitute and a fellow assassin. Those interested in mechanical engineering will enjoy watching Clooney do various custom modifications to an assault rifle. Recommended for mature viewers.
An okay film about an assassin who is being hunted while on assisgnment to construct a weapon.
I was very disappointed in this film. It was painful to watch. Not thrilling at all; boring to the max as others have said here.
beyond boring. had it on subtitles the hold time on fast forward. and it stil was slow!
