I had never paid much attention to M*A*S*H while I was growing up. My dad took me to the movie and I really didn't understand the situations or humor.
I decided to begin watching the series this year beginning with the first season. The ensemble cast and some compelling stories, along with the great humor made me understand why this series was such a favorite among fans and critics alike.
I have seen some syndicated shows from much later in the series, and I must say that this original cast exceeds any other.
I would highly recommend the first season of M*A*S*H and I hope you enjoy it as I did!

Ironic, I hated the movie, but love the TV series, which is miles apart! The debut season is great! "Major Fred C Dobbs" title is an allusion to "The Treasure Of The Sierra Madre" (i.e.greed for gold, natch!). One of the all-time classics is here: "Tuttle", where Hawkeye donates money to nuns for the orphans under the name Tuttle. As the story unfolds, he and Trapper have to "invent" Tuttle (but I won't give away the ending!). Fantastic!

I enjoyed Season One because they still thought of it as a situation comedy rather than the dramedy of the later years.
