Summary
Add a SummaryOne boys picture is all it takes for seventeen year old Cassia Reyes to become uncertain as to who she is supposed to love. As her world begins to break at the seams, Cassia questions the Society in which she lives in.Cassia must find her true self within a seemingly perfect world, that just might not be so perfect after all.
In this society everything seems to be perfect. The Society's Officials decide everything in your life for you, including who you marry, where you work, and when you die. The main character, Cassia, is waiting to be Matched to a boy whom she will be married to. When Cassia's best friend appears on the screen, she knows they are well matched. But, when she sees another boys face flash upon the screen she isn't so sure anymore. Now it is up to Cassia to decide: To live the life the Society has laid before her, or find her own way, the way no one has gone before... purpleberrysbookblog,blogspot.com
The story begins with protagonist Cassia Reyes getting ready for her Match Ceremony, held by the Society, which uses algorithms to determine the perfect mate for its citizens when they turn 17. At the banquet Cassia is matched with her best friend, Xander Carrow. Cassia, like all other matched individuals, is given a microchip which is supposed to have information on their match. When Cassia uses her microchip, both Xander and her friend Ky Markham come up on the screen. A Society Official visits Cassia and tells her that it was a mistake since Ky is an Aberration, and Aberrations cannot be matched.
Cassia is living in a dystopian society , where the government decides everything(even music and yes your spouse), is sent to her matching to learn she is matched to her very own best friend and possible crush. Although this seems perfect something weird happens and another face appears, another person she knows. Cassia than continues in the novel trieing to follow her heart as she learns many secrets about her oh so perfect society. In the end it comes down to Cassias choice. Will she chose the right one?
cassia is matched with xander, but due to a project set up by the government, she falls in love with ky. who will she end up with?
Matched follows Cassia, a girl living in a Utopian/Dystopian society where everything is predicted and controlled by the government including who they will be mated with for life. Cassia's government mandated match is a lifelong friend of hers but when she plugs her data card in to see his information another face pops up on her screen. Cassia falls for Ky and starts to question the rules of her society. Cassia's dystopian world is more like The Giver than other horrifying dystopian societies that have been popular in recent dystopias such as the Hunger Games. Her society is seemingly perfect but also heavily regimented and controlling. To make things more frustrating everytime Cassia does something that she feels is out of the ordinary one of the officials tells her that she was predicted to act in that way. She's never overtly threatened and there is no risk of bodily harm but there is always a risk of being watched. The romance and love triangle which is heavily featured in the story is sweet. There is a large focus on poetry and art which could encourage younger readers to seek out the poem that Cassia treasures.

Quotes
Add a Quote"It is one thing to make a choice and it is another thing to never have a chance. I feel a cold loneliness deep within me. What would it be like to be alone? To know that you could never choose anything else?"
" Except. The face I saw, the face that was not Xander: I knew him to"
"You don't have to write it back," I say, feeling self-conscious. "I just wanted you to know." "I don't want to write it back," he tells me. And then he says it, right out there on the Hill, and all of the words I have hidden and saved and treasured, these are the ones I will never forget, the most important ones of all. "I love you." Lightning. Once it has forked, hot-white, from the sky to earth, there is no going back.
I love. The most reckless thing of all.
I think he might have meant to say something more, but when our lips touch, there is no need, for once, for any words at all. #
And then he says it, right out there on the Hill, and of all the words I have hidden and saved and treasured, these are the ones I will never forget, the most important ones of all. “I love you.” #
Everything I dream is something simple and plain and everyday. That’s how I know they are dreams. Because the simple and plain and everyday things are the ones that we can never have. #
Every minute you spend with someone gives them a part of your life and takes part of theirs. #
It is strange how we hold on to the pieces of the past while we wait for our futures. #
“They are giving us pieces of a real life instead of the whole thing. They have perfected the art of giving us just enought freedom; just enough that when we are ready to snap, a little bone is offered and we roll over, belly up, comfortable and placated like a dog… – Cassia”

Comment
Add a CommentI really enjoyed this book and like to Pre-read my daughters books so that we can talk about it after she is finished. This was a beautiful story of a first love in all it's innocence. The restriction of their society is comparable to how a teenager feels in their parents house. I believe that this book will make them more appreciative of their freedoms.
Matched was okay, it was nothing new with the strict government and rules, but it was alright. Its worth a read but be prepare for typical if you read about forbidden love, communist governments and so on. Its okay to read, not bad like " this was the worst book ever" or " this was a waste of time".its more like but "okay.' predictable though.
There's little to no action in this one, but I'm sure that will change as the series progresses. I thought the storyline was very intriguing, though I agree that it was indeed a little tedious at times. I finished reading this in less than eight hours because I couldn't stop reading. Once it got to the bit about the microcard and her seeing Ky's face, it picked up a little. It was slightly predictable in some spots, but the cliffhanger ending, I didn't see coming. Now THAT was really unexpected! Great book! I think adults might enjoy this one too.
While I agree with hennazidele that this book was a tad slow and I was a little disappointed, my disappoint was due to the fact that my own expectations were so high after the first book. Overall it's a good book & most readers will find this a satisfying conclusion to Condie's trilogy. Of course there will be readers who will hate this book because Cassia did not end up with the guy that they wanted.
i liked the book, but it was slow and a little disappointing.
I loved this book! I'm always amazed at the new ideas and plots that dystopean authors come up with. This was a very fast and fun read that didn't disappoint. I highly recommend.
I thought this book was OK. I thought it was a very cool, futuristic idea, and it was interesting to learn about what their life was like. I thought the story was mostly interesting, but it got dull and boring in my opinion; the same things just happening over and over. I didn't love it.
This book is okay but the last is the best out of all. Follow Cassia as she follows the path of love, Where will it take her?
If you like romance and drama then you will love this book. I personnaly didn't really like this book, but it got interesting toweards the end, a little too much romance for my taste though. But it is a cool futuristic idea.
I just finished this book yesterday. It was so difficult for me to put it down, even to go to sleep at night. I definitely recommend this book for anyone who needs a good read. Even though it reminds me a bit of the Giver and the Hunger Games series, Matched has its own flair that makes it a very excellent book. Can't wait to read Crossed. And (for now) I am so rooting for Ky.
