I always feel funny reading this story to my child. It has a rather graphic kidnapping scene, a monkey smoking a pipe, & getting thrown in jail. Definitely a classic, but I find myself skimming over the less appropriate pages.

Who can't love a story about an insatiably curious monkey? Granted it's dated- hard to explain to my child why a monkey is smoking a pipe. And the man with the Yellow Hat is the most negligent pet owner ever. However, if you skip reading this through the lens of today's social norms, you'll find a light hearted story that the child in all of us can enjoy.

My son loved this book. He watches the television show on PBS and has seen both of the Movies, yet somehow, the book really kept him! He's a bit easy to distract too, so I was impressed! Great job R.A. Rey!

At one point in this story, it shows a picture of George smoking a pipe (with smoke, not bubbles, coming from the pipe), and says something along the lines of, "after a good pipe, George goes to sleep."

What can you say about H. A. Rey's magnificent classic except that no child should miss it.
