The characters in “Winter’s Bone” are believable and the film successfully transports you to a world where people follow a different set of rules. However, I felt that the story was left without a true resolution and therefore offered no real closure to the protagonist.
Rural poor, a world i know and this film was a very realistic deplication. the characters where very believible, the whole cyrstal meth issue isvery true as is the sense that ONLY family and friends are to be counted upon...the police, gov't are outsiders. Life is harsh and these are strong people they are survivors.
A star is born. Jennifer Lawrence, at 17, gives a terrific performance. She received an Oscar nomination for her role. The movie keeps you on the edge of your seat. You hold your breath fearing the outcome. This is the movie gem of 2010. I give it a 9.9 out of 10. Do not miss Jennifer Lawrence in this break through role.
More like real life than a movie. Excellent acting but depressing. Not a thriller as the cover suggests but compelling in a strange way. Too real, too depressing and low in human compassion for my tastes.
I thought this movie was white trash fabulous. It had good acting a great story and some memorable characters. There are a few shocking scenes and I was very entertained. It is nice to see the film like this get recognition.
Winter's Bone is a tale of a young woman's ordeal to find out what happened to her missing father. Busted for cooking meth, Ree's father used the family's home and land as collateral for his bail bond. When the trial date arrives the father is nowhere to be found. Afraid of losing the family home and land Ree visits various friends and relatives looking for her father. But no one is talking. Set in the Ozarks one gets a realistic view of life in the region. Jennifer Lawrence's performance is good in an otherwise grim, slow moving and sad movie.
A great job by Jennifer Lawrence in a realistic and scaringly compelling movie set in the Ozarks. This one is not upbeat but riveting nonetheless.
I enjoyed this movie in a bittersweet kind of way. In a very difficult life the main character is left as the only responsible person in the family with two young children, a missing father and mentally ill mother. Support from the extended family is hit and miss and totally unfair. It is a story of a young woman, years in responsibility beyond her age, having to pick up after the 'adults' in her life. Depressing, but the characters are memorable.
Jennifer Lawrence John Hawkes After her deadbeat father jumps bail and mysteriously disappears, his 17-year old daughter must find a way to track him down; otherwise, she will be left without a home and lose custody of her two younger siblings. It's a pulse-pounding thriller.
