I am absolutely in love with all things written by Mo Willems, but this book takes the cake. The kids will get a kick out of Piggie making them say, "Banana!" Hilarity ensues, until Gerald the elephant realizes that the book is ending. Kids will love the idea that these lovable characters are aware of them as the readers, and they'll definitely want to read this one again and again.

In this stab at metafiction, Mo Willems depicts his famous duo realizing that "someone is looking at [them]." Gerald worries that a monster lurks outside the pages but Piggie squints and reassures him: "A reader is reading us! We are in a book!"

Joy effectively leads to some clever joking when Piggie figures out how to make the readers say "banana" out loud. More hilarity ensues until an appalled Gerald realizes that the book must end. Older readers will find the friends' antics both comic and thought-provoking: who has control over a book's text? Ultimately, Willems displays his characteristic control of both body language and pacing while challenging readers to engage with his characters. To the book's final question, "Hello. Will you please read us again?", the answer is likely to be: absolutely.

This whole series is great, and the perfect blend of interest and ease for our 8 y.o. to read to our 4 y.o. This one encourages reading, especially for kids already a little familiar with Piggy and Elephant.

Mo Willems is a writer that truly gets it. My kids love his stories. My daughter is infatuated with this particular book. She has even taken it upon herself to write her own book featuring Gerald and Piggie. She's just a beginning reader, but this book really got her going. We really crack up when Piggie gets close and looks us in the face.

It's "There is a Monster at the End of This Book" for the 21st century... except way better. Mo Willemson has his finger on both buttons-- books that early readers love and books that parents will grin over too.

Very cute. I didn't laugh out loud as I have done in previous E&P books.

Awesome book! My daughter can't stop reading it. Such a rewarding read for a beginning reader.

This book had my son laughing so hard! He really could understand that they were talking to him through the book! It teaches the child that though the characters are telling a story, it is up to the reader to read the story to make the characters come alive! He had a blast re-reading this one over and over. Of course I had to do the voices.

A great book to read with two people each taking on one character! What would Piggie sound like? Give it a try, and when you get to the end, go back to the beginning and start again!
