"Zombies have infested a fallen America. A young girl named Temple is on the run. Haunted by her past and pursued by a killer, Temple is surrounded by death and danger, hoping to be set free. For twenty-five years, civilization has survived in meager enclaves, guarded against a plague of the dead. Temple wanders this blighted landscape, keeping to herself and keeping her demons inside her heart. She can't remember a time before the zombies, but she does remember an old man who took her in and the youngerbrother she cared for until the tragedy that set her on a personal journey toward redemption. Moving back and forth between the insulated remnants of society and the brutal frontier beyond, Temple must decide where ultimately to make a home and find the salvation she seeks" --Publisher description.

Loved this book. Like all great zombie fiction it's not really about the Zs, and the main character's voice and phrasing throughout the story evokes such rich imagery. Somehow the second book in the series (it's a prequel for a different character) hasn't found a publisher in the USA so you have to find a copy from the UK for more of this wonderful story.

Wow what a beautiful book! I had no idea that a zombie book could be so pretty. Great leading character you will love. I also liked how the zombies were called slugs, it just made it diffrent. Good read but over way too soon. I wanted it never to end.

Amazing. You start to forget it's a zombie book as it turns into something so much more. Temple is such a great character and the plot just drives forward. At points was almost too graphic, but the phenomenal writing over powered any disgust I had.

Terrific story... unique in this genre. Superb main charcters and dialogue. Did not rely on cliche or gratuitous gore! Surprising how enjoyable it is to read the demise of our (deserving) current culture...

Thoroughly enjoyed this book, as a fan of apocalypse and horror dramas, I have to say it is one of the best I've read. You bond to the lead character and grieve for her new world. Recommend it.

This book creates a strong, female character for readers to enjoy. You understand and relate to her early in the book, and go on an adventure with her. Throughout, I kept imagining this as a Quentin Tarantino movie. And Tulsa plays a big role in the book, which made it even more intriguing.

Who knew that a post-apocolyptic landscape full of murders, monsters in the form of hill-billy genetic experiments, and of course zombies in various states of decay- could be so expertly and often so beautifully told? The main character, 15-year-old Temple, is one of the best I have read in awhile, and Alden Bell succeeds in getting her voice so inside your head, that you find yourself looking up and not only speaking like her, but wondering why you aren't in her world, and maybe a little upset because your own is so boring comparitvely. This is almost a road trip book, somewhat of a western, and full of characters and adventure that keep everything intriguing. The book seems to move slowly, but I couldn't put it down. Just a lovely, lovely book about a post-apocolyptic zombie world.

Gorgeous and intriguing story, fantastic characters and a writing style that will pull you in and hook you. One of my favourite books, from start all the way to the final dramatic and exciting ending. Recommended for anyone that likes post-apocalyptic wasteland settings and zombie survivals.

At first I was not even going to read it when I realized it was about Zombies but after reading a few chapters it became the kind of book
that hooks you, sort of like what really could happen and I really liked
Temple, my kind of girl,.

It's a incredible gripping novel. I loved Temple and how strong she was. It's taken from her point of view. Not too many zombie books or films take it from the point of view of someone who has grown-up in this way of life. The action is on point, well-thought out and paced nicely.
