Add a CommentIn the year of its release, “MacGruber” was in the list of worst movies. The critics did not lie.
This was a really dumb, boring and stupid movie. Waste of time - Waste of Electrical power. D- DVD
I have to stress that I watched the unrated extended version so I am not sure what the theatrical version is like. Judging by the reviews it is not as funny. I thought that I would pop this movie in and stop watching after 15 minutes, but it was good enough to watch all the way through. I laughed a few times and was actually surprised. So my strongest advice is to go in with very low expectations. The movie was absolutely ridiculous, but there were some funny scenes. Writers reference the eighties and as a child of that decade I found some of those jokes funny. I even laughed out loud in a few scenes and that is rare for me as most comedies bore me. So for that reason I gave it a decent review. If you occasionally laugh at SNL skits then you may enjoy this film, but remember low expectations can be the key to a content life.
So bad that its funny
Silly and rude, but it made me laugh out loud quite often.
I was incredibly disappointed with this feature-length adaptation of one of the funniest sketches appearing currently on Saturday Night Live. Kristin Wiig is hysterical in the movie, but that is a given. She is about all the movie has going for it, though. All in all, I thought it was way too graphic - not because I do not like gratuitous things, but because it seemed like it was graphic solely for the sake of being graphic. There was almost no purpose to it. MacGruber should have stayed a sketch on SNL.
This is pure garbage! I realize they're trying to spoof here - but, everyone other than lead actor, SNL alumni Will Forte, looks embarrassed at having to perform in this theatrical bomb (watching it on tv doesn't make it any better!). The jokes come across like the work of an anal-retentive mind - with a heavy emphasis on "anal" (see Joseph's review on this page). For the most part, they are crude, rude and so strained that they look and sound like SNL reject material. I gave MACGRUBER half a star - because there isn't a lower rating.
Good – MacGruber (2010) 90 min. Review based on the extended version. How does one recommend a movie that on the surface is ridiculously “stupid”. But yet, I found myself laughing at various points in the film. And if a comedy is supposed to make one laugh and it does - does that make it a good movie? I beg to say “yes”. The film is a spoof of the 1980s adventure series “MacGyver” and the MacGruber character featured on Saturday Night Live. The film is extremely vulgar and foul mouthed but it’s also quite embarrassingly funny. Chock this one up as a very guilty and naughty pleasure. Lastly, thanks to MacGruber, I may never eat a celery stick again – cream of celery soup maybe, but a celery stick - noooooooo.
Entertaining enough. How this SNL skit was turned into a movie of this budget is miracle itself.
