Add a CommentAn excellent book. Witty and charming at times, incredibly dark and harsh at others. The climactic scene was particularly well done (though I'll say no more for fear of spoiling it). I'm confused about the "Full Record" above - it claims the award "Recent 4 Children's Nonfiction October." It's fiction, and not a children's book.
great book loved itmany good stuff liked that the bloggers overpowered the news system! ;)
Mira Grant is also Seanan McGuire. Under that name she does an urban fantasy series about Toby, half human/half fairy and her struggles to hack out a place in both worlds. Faerie is a viscious and bloody kingdom, with it's own internal logic. Wry humour and good storytelling.
Zombies, blogging and politics in a post-apocalyptic world... what is there not to like. Written from the perspective of youth, yet dabbles in ideas for an adult audience. Dry, droll and laugh-out-loud fun at times, with a sombre seriousness leaving you numb in others. Highly recommend this one! P.S. - If you enjoyed Mira Grant's writing style, she is writing under a pen name here (she normally publishes under the name Seanan McGuire).
I really loved this book. It has a dry humour that keeps me entertained. As someone else has already commented, it is a political thriller with zombies. Characters that keep you invested and a story that I want more of. Greatly looking forward to the next in the trilogy.
nancy drew vs the zombies this book is written for 15 year old girls ; in the first sceen we have the hero female and her twin 15 year old brother out scouting zombie teratory ; on only 1 dirtbike . 1 bike for 2 people in zombie teratory? a bit cumbersome what? of course the girl drives with the boy in the bitch seat. not only that ,she becomes evel knivel with bro hanging on helplessly behind. hurrah for tween girls everywhere!
Another case of a very interesting premise (presidential campaign 25 years after a zombie outbreak) but with to me anyway, somewhat unlikable or at the very least anyway, main characters I could not relate to. Coupled with too much focus on the blogging aspect of the main characters, I just found the book too boring. The conspiratory trying to be uncovered is interesting enough (but undeveloped. Maybe the sequel expands on this), but there simply wasn't enough action and suspense to make up for the boring characters and boring descriptions of their technology. If you are into zombie fiction I suppose you should still try it and you might like it if you are into technothrillers, but don't expect much action or suspense.
I really enjoyed this book! I'd describe it is a political thriller ... with zombies which makes it better!
