Deftly done, this book delivers enough chills for most young readers. The plot involves generations of misdeeds and a boy who becomes the catalyst for resolution. Numerous ghosts with varying personal motives are all nonetheless entertaining. A few loose ends and an oversimplified stepmother-son happy ending are minor flaws. Who knew that trees could be this creepy?
