He is recruited to travel light years to the human outpost on Pandora, where a corporate consortium is mining a rare mineral that is the key to solving Earth's energy crisis. He is given a mission to infiltrate the Na'vi, who have become a major obstacle to mining the precious ore. But a beautiful Na'vi female, Neytiri, saves Jake's life--which changes everything.

a man enters into an imaginary world whenever he wants
By 2148, humans have severely depleted Earth's natural resources. In 2154, the RDA Corporation mines for a valuable mineral—unobtanium—on Pandora, a densely forested habitable moon of the gas giant Polyphemus in the Alpha Centauri star system.[10] Pandora, whose atmosphere is poisonous to humans, is inhabited by the Na'vi, 10-foot (3.0 m)-tall, blue-skinned, sapient humanoids[33] who live in harmony with nature and worship a mother goddess called Eywa.

Quotes
Add a Quote"Contemplate the mangled bodies of your countrymen, and then say, 'What should be the reward of such sacrifices?' ... If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animating contest of freedom...crouch down and lick the hands, which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that ye were our countrymen!" Samuel Adams distinguishing between pro- and anti-Americans.
Dr. Max Patel: Grace, this is Jake Sully.
Jake Sully: [Narrating] There's no such thing as an ex-marine. You may be out, but you never lose the attitude.
Jake Sully: [Narrating] One life ends, another begins.
Jake Sully: [Narrating] Up ahead was Pandora. You grew up hearing about it, but I never figured I'd be goin' there.
Neytiri: I see you.
Jake Sully: I see you.
Jake Sully: Yeah, Doc, it's safe, and you are not gonna believe where I am!
Dr. Grace Augustine: Is the avatar safe?
Col. Quaritch: That is one big damn tree!

Add a CommentThis silly movie should have been called "Blue Hippies in Space"!!!
Before you watch this overrated piece of leftwing propaganda, I highly recommend you read Debbie Schlussel’s review: http://www.debbieschlussel.com/13898/dont-believe-the-hype-avatar-stinks-long-boring-unoriginal-uber-left/. Avatar is not only anti-American, it is anti-Capitalism too—not surprising, since 10 out of 10 film makers (and every single person involved in making movies) are lefties who revere Gaya and blame Americans for all the evils in the world—no matter who originated them! Interestingly, these Che-lovers have no problem whatsoever benefiting from the exact economic system they systematically attack: Capitalism!
for some reason I thought this film was aminated & hesitated watching..once I did, I found it very good...I am a fan...5 stars for me..I see you:) story line doesn't matter...the message is hope & that is always good
This is my favorite movie of all time, and I would give it ten stars if I could!!!!!! No, the plot is not the most original, but so what? Avatar is just a plain gorgeous movie!!!!! Pandora is incredibly, unbelievably, awesomely beautiful!!! The digital artistry in this movie is as yet unrivaled. Avatar is a true quality film!!
It has giant blue people and GUNS!!!!! Whats there not to like.
An anti-military, anti-American movie by big-time "progressive" James Cameron. What else can I say?
Oh, people seem a little threatened by this flic, judging by some of the comments. Ironically, this entertaining piece of fiction has drawn more attention to aboriginal/environmental issues than the ACTUAL cases that exist! For all you happy capitalists who, like sheep, equate bacteria-like over consumption with national pride, you should check out "The Real Avatar", with David Suzuki. It's a liitle harder to deny FACTS! Since when did looking out for your descendants future become"left",or"hippy"? Oh, since Bush and his fellow Psychocapitalists told you so! It's easy to throw labels at facts you fear, so you can toss them out like a "Big Mac" wrapper.Your"Great" economy is DONE, like the environment, anyhow, so ENJOY!
A moving allegory reminding us that we are part of the tree of life. Jake Sully’s defiant message “They can’t take whatever they want.” will be uncomfortable for capitalist Dominionists. Xenophobes and hegemonists will recognize themselves in an unflattering mirror. Colonel Quaritch compensates for his damaged psyche by becoming part of the machinery of war -- ironic that this machismo archetype is dispatched by a girl. As Dr. Augustine, Sigourney Weaver shows her softer “Gorillas in the Mist” side in contrast with her “Alien” roles. A wonderful movie.
Somepatrons who wrote comments summarized this movie very well. A couple called it “Dances with Smurfs.” I agree that it had a poor story line, was highly overrated and was predictable, was anti-military and anti-American. Some defined the movie so accurately I have to quote them: “"Titanic in space with blue people,” and “a rip off of Pocahontas with over the top visuals that make your head spin.” And, yes, this is “the most ethnocentric, insulting film I've seen in a long time” and the blue guys “aren't aboriginals they are a bunch of angry blue hippie aliens,”! :-)
Sometimes a bad movie is just that: a bad movie, no matter how much one tries to pump it up! Mr. Cameron is a known anti-American; no wonder his movie is clearly a criticism of the US. So, if you hate (= envy) America, this is the movie for you.
