Mark Hamill gets chance to "Darth Vader". That ALONE is enough to watch this movie. I didn't even know he could be EVIL!!!!!!!!! Anyway, that's not the only reason that this movie is GREAT AND AWESOME AND THAT YOU SHOULD TOTALLY WATCH IT!!!!! It's my second favorite Ghibli movie after Howl's Moving Castle. First of all, the visuals are STUNNING!!!!!! Detail has always been VERY important to Miyazaki, and this movie is no exception. Secondly: the characters. This is HUGE. Sheeta is your sweet and caring heroine that embodies the classic feminine protagonist: willing to risk herself to protect the ones she loves. Patsu follows along those last few lines, but includes some traits of his own: a love of flight(this is usually standard with most Ghibli movies; almost all of them have planes or trains or SOMETHING like that), loyalty, admitting his mistakes, and courage. Then there's Dola: amazingly funny (she's a MOTHER, for Pete's sake), spunky, but embodies the classic pirate too. And, to top it all off-Muska. Ah, Muska, Muska, Muska. What can I say? High praise to Mark Hamill. Muska is the type of guy you DON'T want to mess with or be on his bad side. Muska’s voice can give you shivers, and he was believable (not the “Mwah-ha-ha!” type of bad guy). What can I say? WATCH THIS MOVIE!!!

Standing on its own, Castle in the Sky is a very smartly animated and cleverly told story for both adults and children alike. I have not seen this film since childhood and watching it 10 years later I must say that not only has it held up beautifully, but perhaps it's even better than when I first saw it. The characters are well written and likable, the villain is played deviously well by Mark Hamill, the music and setting set the atmosphere almost immediately and remain consistent throughout. Compared to many of Miyazaki's other films, it doesn't stand out as much as Princess Mononoke or Spirited Away, but as it stands it is still a very sweet and gorgeous experiance.

Sheeta and Patsu must outrun both the Dola Gang and a group of government agents and military backed by Muska to discover the floating city born of legends, Laputa.

I wish I want a glowing pendant that floats down and up like Emily from Amulet and she wears a stonekeeper.

In the movie's backstory, human civilizations built flying cities, which were destroyed during an unspecified catastrophe, forcing the survivors to live on the ground as before. Just one city, Laputa, remains in the sky, concealed by a thunderstorm. In the opening scene, an airship travels though the clouds. On board are a girl named Sheeta and Muska, the government agent who abducted her. Without warning, an air pirate gang led by an old but vivacious woman named Dola attack the airship. Like Muska, they want Sheeta and her stone. The pirates invade the ship, and during the ensuing chaos, Sheeta manages to knock Muska unconscious and steals a blue stone. The pirates break into her room, and she tries to hide by escaping out a window and clinging to the outside of the ship. However, she loses her grip and falls into the night sky. As the unconscious Sheeta hurtles toward the ground, the blue stone emits a mysterious light slowing Sheeta's descent. From a small mining town (Slag's Ravine), a young boy named Pazu sees the light of the stone descending from the sky and runs to investigate. Upon reaching the mineshaft, he reaches out to catch the falling girl. To his amazement, she appears weightless (that is, until the stone stops glowing). Pazu decides to take her to his home. He tells Sheeta about the floating city of Laputa and his deceased father, a pilot who had taken a photograph of the city.
