Rehvenge is used to living in the shadows and dealing with the roughest night walkers around—including the Black Dagger Brotherhood. Add a QuoteWith a roar and a messy scamble, he launched his body off the bed, quilts landing everywhere. Not a great move on his part. As his numb feet hit the throw rug, he went Frisbee, finding air briefly before landing on his face. On impact, a sound like a bomb had gone off rumbled through the floorboards, and he crawled for the phone, tracking the light that still glowed from its screen. He was almost in range when the door swung open, narrowly missing his head and clipping the phone--which shot like a hockey puck in the opposite direction. As Rehv wheeled around and lunged for the thing, he shouted at Trez. "Don't shoot me!"

This was a very worthy addition to the BDB series. I really like Rehvenge and anytime I get to read that character's interactions with Xhex and the Moors, I'm a happy camper. Addictively compelling as usual.
Exciting action packed sexy romance. Many character story lines makes for a slower read. Looking forward to next in series.
(5.0 stars. No spoilers) Well done J.R. Ward for the phenomenal read! I kept wondering how the hell things were going to resolve in the end and sure enough she found a way for everything to fall into place. The ending is satisfying imho...it's not all "crazy action-packed" but it certainly has good exciting, action. Character development right to the end with Wrath which served it's purpose well and was interesting. The relationship between Rehv & Ehlena was so beautiful & simple yet the situation was completely complicated. So very original ... including and especially the BARB!!! NOTHING LIKE GETTING A WOMEN'S IMAGINATION GOING...lol! Especially the fact that Ward got a WOMEN LIKE ME to love a drug lord, pimping, murdering BADASS like Rehv...all for loyal, substantiated reasons...OF COURSE! For a "tortured" hero he wasn't annoying (like Phury and Butch a litte bit) because he always felt strong to me. Even though he used a cane! He was an action-taker... at whatever cost to himself. (Phury & Butch both got screams from me to suck it up and DO something!) BTW, I only recommend this book and this series to people who have an OPEN MIND. Anyone easily offended by swearing, sexuality, explicit sex, etc. should just move on.... In my opinion, the swearing fits, is often funny; I enjoy the Brother's banter oh so much. The only thing I didn't like was Vishous' kinky stuff...blame Ward for just wanting to shock her readers or go as BADASS as she could! She certainly did with each and every Brother/character! Main storyline with Rehv & Ehlena was wonderfully supported with that of Wrath & Beth. Every desire a reader may have for a book may be satisfied in this book as long as they don't expect all of it to come from the main characters. A few books ago I accepted the fact that Ward always writes in SOOOO many POVs....so, I said to myself, just accept and go with it! Can't help but be frustrated when she leaves us hanging, though, at the end of a chapter and moves to another POV (*scream*)! This is a long book but didn't feel like a long book to me. I did have troubles getting into it during the first 1/4 though but later couldn't put it down. Ward did a great job developing each and everyone's character with sufficient background to substantiate who they are now. Glad I pushed through Phury's book to get to this one.... Now FINALLY I get to read the JOHN MATTHEW book...almost like he's Ward's favorite and the wannabe main character of the whole flipping series! Anyone notice how Vishous, Zsadist and Darius are sometimes called V, Z, & D? However John is very often referred to in his complete name "John Matthew"! Gives his name more strength I guess.
I love Rehv's book. His love for his females shines from him, even if he is a sin-eater. The full Symphaths seem to have less control, and more nuttiness than the half-symphaths like Rehv and Xhex. Lash is really creepy as the only lesser who eats and has sex.
