All-new action in the #1 New York Times bestselling urban fantasy series
When mechanic and shapeshifter Mercy Thompson attempts to return a powerful Fae book she'd previously borrowed in an act of desperation, she finds the bookstore locked up and closed down.
It seems the book contains secret knowledge-and the Fae will do just about anything to keep it out of the wrong hands. And if that doesn't take enough of Mercy's attention, her friend Samuel is struggling with his wolf side-leaving Mercy to cover for him, lest his own father declare Sam's life forfeit.
All in all, Mercy has had better days. And if she isn't careful, she might not have many more to live...
Baker & Taylor
Mechanic and shape-shifter Mercy Thompson has her hands full when she becomes the unwitting owner of a Fae book that contains secret knowledge, and also must cover for her best friend, Samuel, as he struggles with his wolf side.

Summary
Add a SummaryMercy Thompson finds herself in possession of a fae book. When she goes to return the book to its owner, Phin, she discovered he has disappeared. She shrugs off her feelings of apprehension, believing that all is not as odd as it may seem. Unfortunately, her problems have just begun. Samuel has been acting strange and her relationship with Adam is going well, except for the mate bond going haywire. Suddenly, Mercy finds herself in a difficult situation between her friends, her mate, and the fae. Can she resolve these problems without losing her friendships or her mate, Adam? When I pick up a Patricia Briggs novel, I know I'm going to be blown away by the storytelling. Silver Borne only solidifies my opinion of this fantastic author.

Add a CommentEnjoyable interesting read, looking forward to reading next in series.
One of the best in the series.
Mercy's in trouble again....I love it! However she never quite needs "saving" which is great. No fun reading about wimpy women! As Adam said about being able to save her from peril - "she takes care of herself; I just get to clean up the mess afterwards" (something like that). I know I'm reading a good series when it invades my thoughts throughout my day only to find relief when I'm able to sneak off to read...at which time I DON'T STOP until I absolutely have to! (Yea my house is an unorganized mess!) Although the plot involving the fae book was "okay", my favorite parts of the book related to the development of Mercy & Adam's relationship, Sam/Samuel's issues, and Mercy's conflicts within the pack dynamics. The CHALLENGE scene was really fun. Gotta love how Mercy ended that party with a bang!!! Like most enjoyable series it's easy to love and give 5 stars to a book when reading simple character development is exciting because of the reader's (i.e. "my") growing love for the characters. The plot felt almost like an assessory vehicle to carry Mercy and Samuel along to where certain issues resolved (i.e. pack bonds and will to live). Briggs never did develop the character of the evil fairy queen very much. No biggie...she's done anyways. The catalysts that resolves the depression in Samuel was an interesting surprise. I could easily see a novella about that. We only got little snippets as Mercy (and therefore "we") only hears about most of it after the fact. I'm glad Briggs ended this book the way she did especially as Adam was somewhat absent from most of the events of the book plot. The intensity of their reunion and his unconditional love for her was great reading as well as Mercy's desire to be comforted and accepted by the pack bond. Glad I have the next one ready but I MUST get things done around the house...lol.
Continues to be a great series.
@lysar.....I couldn't put it into better words than you did. I accidently fell onto Patricia Briggs shortly after reading Twilight series and fell in love instantly. I was able to ready the series one after the other until this book and i couldn't wait to keep ready about Mercy and all the trouble she gets into. I also Read the Alpha and Omega about Charles Cornick, great read as well, you will want to read more about them too. I hope the series goes on for a long time. I could never tire of the series.
The fifth title of the MERCY THOMPSON series. You can't go wrong with Patricia Briggs. She's a great story teller and a master plot builder, and she has created an unforgettable set of characters. If you like the MERCY THOMPSON series, be sure to read the ALPHA AND OMEGA series, which tells the story of the “country” side of this werewolf pack. Here are the MERCY THOMPSON titles in reading order: Moon Called (2006); Blood Bound (Ace, 2007); Iron Kissed (2008); Bone Crossed (2009); Silver Borne ( 2010); River Marked (Ace, 2011); “The Star of David” in Wolfsbane & Mistletoe anthology (2010) "Red with Pearl" in Down These Strange Streets anthology (10-2011) Mercy Thompson: Homecoming (graphic novel, 2009)
A great read from a talented author! Briggs out does herself on this one, keepign up her steady stream of easily believable characters with real motivations and a great story to boot. I didn't put this one down. One warning, though: If you're new to the series, don't start here! the author ties up a lot of loose ends int his book that will mean nothing if you haven't read the others. Pick this series up from the beginning - you won't be disappointed.
This series never gets old or boring and kicks ass over and over again. I need to start off by saying I have such a hard time reviewing this series because I love it so much I just want to squee and write incoherent sentences because my brain is all over the place in excitement. I hope that for those that love this series understand. So, please bare with me as I try to settle my squee. What I love about Briggs is that while the romance is there it's never the driving force. I feel like it drives the characters into directions and gives them more to fight for. There are scenes in this book that are just so potent and brought tears to my eyes and no words are exchanged it's just Briggs' style of writing. She's the master at conveying emotions and struggles without the words, just body language. I feel like the plots as the series has continued have just gotten stronger. I like that the main plot is there but you still get so much more. The packs interaction with having a coyote as their alpha's mate is wonderfully written. I love that Mercy is still struggling with the aftermath of Tim. That alone makes me love Briggs so much more. That she's written it all so tastefully and hasn't swept it under the rug and watching Adam struggle with how to deal is beautiful. His struggle with not wanting to frighten her but his wolf being, well, his wolf was so perfectly well written and well balanced. The story with Sam was strong and it makes me wonder if Briggs is going to do a little side story with him. I hope she does, I'd be all over that! Such a fantastic book and a wonderful addition to a strong series.
Loved it! I like how Patricia Briggs keeps the relationships between chracters from getting stale without the plot lines becoming unbelievable. This is the 5th book in the Mercy Thompson series.
In Silver Borne, Mercy is dealing with the growing relationship between her and her mate, Adam and the problems that relationship is causing within his pack, but in typical Mercy fashion, she doesn't just have a small helping of trouble on her plate - it's a plate of trouble big enough for a werewolf - and in this case, the added helpings of trouble are the suicidal Samuel and the missing Phin, bookstore owner and part fae who lent Mercy a book about fae and who has now disappeared. I wnjoyws reading about the growth in Mercy's character after a lifetime of independence and a horrifying rape in a previous novel continues to impress me. She's one of the few Urban Fantasy series heroines that continues to grow and evolve in very organic ways during the series, and I appreciate that as a reader. I was particularly delighted with everything in this book related to the pack and Adam and her struggles with Samuel. Finally, after all the trials and tribulations, Mercy and Adam's relationship becomes complete. There are many wonderful moments between the two of them in the book, when each of them realizes with growing clarity just how much they care about each other. I am endlessly amazed by how deftly Patricia Briggs handles emotions and relationships between her characters. It's never dramatic or overly sentimental; it's simple, heartfelt and beautiful. I am so happy they are finally together and you feel the love the two of them have for each other. I can't wait to read the next book where I am hoping there is at least talk of a wedding in it. I can't praise Patricia Briggs and her Mercy Thompson series enough.
