Burt and Verona are a loving couple. Burt has always wanted to marry Verona, but Verona resists, not seeing the point of the institution. Regardless, they are having a baby together and question their potential parenting abilities. They decide to move closer to Burt's parents so they can share the experience with the baby's grandparents. In Verona's sixth month, she and Burt learn that his parents are moving to Belgium the month before the baby is due. Being mobile people, Burt and Verona decide to move. As they want to share their new family experience with people that they love, they decide to take a trans-continental trip to meet with old friends and relatives. An off-beat, sweet and funny film. I highly recommend it!

Sweet, sweet movie. Delightfully warm and unpretentious. Superb and low key acting by main characters. Soundtrack is great. Best and most believable performance by Maggie Gyllenhaal I've ever seen, and Allison Janney played an over-the top alcoholic and was disturbingly hilarious. See it!

This is one of the best films I've seen this past year. Great writing for a couple of refreshingly simple and real characters. Had me laughing from the start.

Certainly an odd film with what can only be described as unique characters. While some moments were awkward in ways that were not humorous, the overall feeling of the movie was positive. It was wonderful to see that people who are not "normal" by Hollywood standards can be perfectly happy.

This oddball, circuitous, moralistic road trip taken by a geeky couple on the verge of parenthood left me feeling flat & unenlightened--hardly the way I expect & want to feel after watching a road-trip flick. Among its main problems is that the couple demonstrates the same tedious, self-righteous sanctimony common to many new parents. Maggie Gyllenhaal is excellent, however, in her bit part as a wacky Earth Mother.

Must See - Away We Go (2009) 98 min. What a wonderful screenplay and wonderful performances by two of the most likeable characters on film both played by John Krasinski (of Office fame) and Maya Rudolph (of Saturday Night Live fame). The characters were fun to watch and the many people they meet on their road trip leads to a very good movie experience. Watch for this one at Oscar time.
