Add a CommentA teriffic film to kick off a franchise which would take just two films to ruin. Even though Alien3 kicked off a long line of diappointing alien films, this one still holds up as a groundbreaking classic. A must see for everyone... as long as your at least thirteen or fourteen years old.
Dark, claustrophobic and downright terrifying while at the same time beautifully atmospheric and absolutely stunning, Alien is without a doubt one of the greatest and scariest movies ever made! Science fiction at it's very finest, with a hero and a villain that are both unlike any other ever seen before.
When I first saw the alien burst out of the abdomen I was shocked and horrified. When this movie came out it was like no other seen before. A classic of the sci-fi horror genre. Ridley Scott's Prometheus is just plain awful compared to this movie.
The ground breaking classic !,.. and should be on evey list for 10 Best Sci-fi Films. ...I'd had no preview of it, and saw it for the first time from the balcony in a huge deserted deeply darkened theater that was like being suspended in outter space itself. And then the 'hero' got killed !...whaaa ?!! (Some don't seem to realize how much this movie changed everything that came after.) P.S. Kev's PICkS : For an intresting perspective, compare this heroine with the female lead in "The Creature From the Black Lagoon".
Sci-fi/horror is a tough genre. One that can a lot of times just end up being campy and/or silly. This is not the case with Alien. Truly suspenseful and always serious with a couple make you jump scares. Well acted. The effects are slightly dated, but hold up well even today. Iconic and game changing. A must see for any sci-fi fan.
This two disc "Director's Cut" with DTS 5.1 sound is just what the HOMETHEATER doctor ordered. After watching both versions i prefered the director's cut. There are scenes that was put back into the movie and it runs seemlessly. My two favorite scenes for audio is when Rippley is trying to deactivate the destruct sequence. Listening to "Mother's" countdown throughout the ship is awesome along with the warning alarm and steam. Also. I really enjoyed the scene where one of the characters is looking for the Rippley's cat. He walks into a room filled with chains hanging from the ceiling while the alien is directly over his head. I love the sound of the chains and the dripping water that has a great reverb sound to it. Excellent!!!! There's one other scene that shows you what happens to the victims when the alien attacks them. excellent!!!!! I'm very happy to have this "Director's Cut" in my collection. I give this DVD collection 5 STARS!!!!!! Excellent sound, visuals, 2 versions, DTS, and lots of bonus material. Buffalo barbeque wings, popcorn, potato chips, a large blanket for two, and lights off!
SDH & closed-caption review [o= non-existent; 1 = poor; 2 = fair; 3 = good, 4 = excellent]. This DVD has both subtitles & closed-captions available. ~ Subtitle rating; 3 – Good: White letters, lower-case but sharp & readable. Would have been an Excellent rating had full upper-case. ~ Closed-caption rating: 4 – Excellent. White letters, upper case, sharp edges, superimposed on a black background, best accessibility available.
Movie that started the Alien series.
A Sci-Fi Classic!
A top 10 all time science fiction movie. This from someone who has seen nearly every science fiction film ever made (700+).
