Summary

On December 6, 1973, in a suburb of Philadelphia, 14-year-old Susie Salmon takes her usual shortcut home from her school through a cornfield. George Harvey, a 36-year-old single man who lives alone and builds doll houses for a living, persuades her to have a look at an underground den he has recently dug in the field. Once she has entered it, he rapes and murders her with a shaving razor and dismembers her body, putting her remains in a safe that he dumps in a sinkhole. Susie's spirit flees toward her personal heaven. The Salmon family at first refuses to accept the fact that Susie is dead, until Susie's elbow is found by the neighbor's dog. The police talk to Harvey, finding him strange but seeing no reason to suspect him. Susie's father Jack, on extended leave from work, begins to suspect Harvey, a sentiment his surviving daughter Lindsey comes to share

what a grate book...And the movie is too ii read it two times already and ima read it again.
Hated it.
So sad and beautiful a book. Disturbing and violent and masterfully written. Even through her violent, graphically depicted death and her watching of her family's grief and falls, Susie's voice is so pure, so genuine, and yet so knowledgeable. This is one of those books that stays with you.
well written. a grabber. gets a little strange/unbelievable near the end. interesting concept.
This is the type of novel that stays with me long after I read it. I found it disturbing but touching. I would really recommend others to read this book and then see the movie.
i saw the movie and my friends told me to read the book was way better and it was true it is alot better, i reallhave y liked the movie and the book (i kinda liked the book more tho) the ending still bugs me i wish he would have gotten cought

Amazing, when I heard it was about a murdered girl I thought great, yet another murder/sob story that evryone reads but no one cares about, turns out-I was totally wrong!!!!! I loved it!! Usually im an action packed fantasy lover but this was awesome, there was always a ton of tension & . . . .just awesome. I liked it
Very good book about a very sick neighbor. Some parts I didn't understand what was going on.But when I saw the movie it cleared that right up. It makes you aware of the sick and dangerous people that can be in your neighborhood .
