Did any of you realize 42 is Jackie Robinson's baseball number?

This book is absolutely absurd... which is a large part of its charm! Poor Arthur Dent is a near-powerless (or should I say "mostly harmless"?) human who lives in an incredibly absurd, often malign universe and must make his way through its unintelligible vastness as best he can. Which, really, can be said of us all...

It's a good book but you have to come at it with an open mind or it will seem absurd and corny

Finally read this after years of wanting to...unfortunately, I'm slightly disappointed. Granted, it is "cute" and silly, which I can appreciate but sometimes it's a too corny for my liking. A fun, quick read but nothing to go crazy over.

This book is hilarious, but it's a very detailed and intelligent kind of humour. You will either love it or be extremely annoyed. Either way, you should definitely give it a shot. One of my favourites! Adams is AMAZING.

The book is quite entertaining, but I find it way too hard to follow. Going to give the movie a try and see how I like it.

This book is a huge part of popular culture. It has innumerable fans (including my coworker). References have been made in casual conversation, game shows, and speeches. It’s a cultural icon. It’s…probably my least favorite book so far this year. I can see the humor, but it’s way too “out there” for me. It reads like a bad acid trip. I don’t know what Adams was on when he wrote this, but I hope never to experience it firsthand.

Every reader, young and old, should know that the answer to life, the universe, and everything is 42.

I thought the story provided a lot of comedy and I enjoyed reading about all the nonsensical stuff like the Improbability Drive. Marvin was very much the depressed robot that we harbor inside us all, some more than others. I found the middle of the book a little slow in places, but overall a recommend giving it a read. The story does take an Atheistic approach and challenges Creationism, but not enough to truly feel the need to bring it to an offensive level.

awful book. Just a book of facts with no plot whatsoever. It feels as if mr adams just started writing one day and kept making up a story and then one day he decided to stop and the book ends. Five sentences earlier I would have thought the book would keep going on for the next at least 200 pages. but it stops in the middle of nowhere. It has no climax and was obviously written by somebody who doesn't know how to write fantasy novels. The fact that it has a movie shows that people don't appreciate good literature. I could write a book ten times better than him on the spot.

This book is the worst book I have ever read. If you want a summary of a good book I suggest you read the eragon series or the hunger games. A good book.

Human beings are great adapters, and by lunchtime life in the environs of Arthur's house had settled into a steady routine. It was Arthur's accepted role to lie squelching in the mud making occasional demands to see his lawyer, his mother or a good book

Life, don't talk to me about life!
