Ms. Stiefvater brings her lyrical prose to bear on this enchanting, bitter romance between a girl and her sometime werewolf boyfriend. Love between alien species is never smooth nor easy and all the rough bumps and crooked turns are ably written here.

If Ms. Stiefvater’s furry Romeo is a bit on the dour side, he has reason to be and she lets us see beneath Sam’s hairy exterior to the romantic, bleeding heart within him. The distaff side is not left wanting. The book alternates in its chapters between the voices of boy and girl as the difficulties of their relationship are explored. Grace has her own problems, which are both different from and the same as Sam’s. They form and formulate her character and make her emotions and thoughts quite compelling to read.

With snippets of song and poetry winding through their conversations, the reader actually sees how this relationship grows, instead of merely being told how right they are for each other or similar nonsense. This is one of the most riveting examples of YA fiction that I’ve read this year, a poignant and bewitching fairy tale of getting lost and found in the woods.

this book is really good. i like how the author set up the chapters (alternating Grace and Sam narrating). This way you could see what each character was thinking.

I found this novel interesting but the love story of Sam and Grace seemed so forced and way to weird for my taste.

i can't wait to read this series
my friend recommended it hope its good

Beautiful characters and enchanting descriptions. I easily lost myself in the pages! I only wish I were a little more sold on the solution.

It book is PURE poop! All day Grace wines. No strong characters were in this book and the plot is just so predictable!

I completly enjoyed 100101_2827637's comment of this book. I've yet to read it as I am still new to my local library. But the comments made were really great. A few even made me laugh, which is not easy to do. I will likely read the trilogy eventually, and will give it a chance. I also appreciate the heads up for novels by Kelly Armstrong. I will also be checking into those. Thank you for the great comment 100101_2827637 , I always read them and some are my deciding factor if I'll read them or not. But since I've never read Twilight, I should be ok to read these. Maybe not as clouded? Anyway, thats all I wanted to say.

For years, Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf - her wolf - is a haunting presence she can''t seem to live without. Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. When Grace was a little girl, she was attacked by wolves. They ripped at her clothing as if they were trying to devour her. All except for one. A wolf with golden eyes. Every year since the attack the golden eyed wolf has watched her, and she watched him. Sexual Content: There is a lot of kissing, and the main characters do advance their relationship in certain ways by the end of the novel, but its nothing too descriptive.

Sexual Content: It contains plenty of kissing and such, but one part is very intimate.

“Sam came around the side of the car and stopped dead when he saw me. “Oh my God, what is THAT?” I used my thumb and middle finger to flick the multicolored pom-pom on top of my head. “In my language, we call it a HAT. It keeps my ears warm.” “Oh my God,” Sam said again, and closed the distance between us. He cupped my face in his hands and studied me. “It’s horribly cute.” He kissed me, looked at the hat, and then he kissed me again. I vowed never to lose the pom-pom hat.”

“She kissed me harder, breath huffing into my mouth, and bit my lip. Oh, hell that was amazing. I growled before I could stop myself.”

“Sensitive," I tried.

Sam translated: "Squishy."

"Creative."

"Dangerously emo."

"Thoughtful."

"Feng shui."

I laughed so hard I snorted. "How do you get feng shui out of 'thoughtful'?"

"You know, because in feng shui, you arrange furniture and plants and stuff in thoughtful ways." Sam shrugged. "To make you calm. Zenlike. Or something. I'm not one hundred percent sure how it all works, besides the thoughtful part.”

“We had this big grill at his house, and I remember, one night he said, 'Sam, tonight you're feeding us,' He showed me how to push on the middle of the steaks to see how done they were, and how to sear them fast on each side to keep the juices in."
"And they were awesome, weren't they?"
"I burned the hell out of them," I said, matter-of-fact. "I'd compare them to charcoal, but charcoal is still sort of edible.”

“And then I opened my eyes and it was just Grace and me - nothing anywhere but Grace and me - she pressing her lips together as though she were keeping my kiss inside her, and me, holding this moment that was as fragile as a bird in my hands.”

“Lunch." I said. "Immediately. I'm going to wither away to absolutely nothing. Then you'll be racked with guilt."
"I doubt it.”
