Add a CommentFor me, John C. Reilly and Queen Latifah steal the show with their 'Cellophane' and 'Mama' numbers, respectively. Zeta-Jones has a magnificent voice, reminding me of Melissa Manchester, but her dancing is a bit stiff. Speaking of the dancing, the editing is so poor during the dance numbers, it begs the question of whether or not the actors/dancers were ever able to sustain an entire number or if it was just one re-shoot after another. Zellweger does a great job and is definitely the star.
A nice musical movie.
I tried...but I didn't care for this movie at all.
Great performances by all: John C. Reilly, Gere, Zeta-Jones, Zellweger, and Queen Latifah. Good production values in a spectacle. (Although I did notice that, the second time around, "Razzle Dazzle 'Em" just didn't have the same effect.) Interesting and effective use of intercutting production numbers with "live" action. The story, about ambition, sleaze, and manipulation, is almost incidental, but does have it's points :-)
I love how they blended the two different interpretations of the Broadway versions to create this masterpiece.

Few musical movies are equal or better than this movie.

I know it's a well-known musical and everything, but I actually didn't like it at all. The story was boring and the music wasn't that captivating either.
Richard Gere should not sing.
