Add a CommentHorrorshow of all horrorshows._____ Released in 1981, Mommie Dearest is, without a doubt, a truly grotesque look behind the finely manicured facade of real-life actress Joan Crawford, one of Hollywood's biggest stars of the 1940s and 50s._____ Adapted for the screen from Christina Crawford's scandalous "tell-all" autobiography, Mommie Dearest is a very eye-opening tale, indeed. As Joan's adopted, and allegedly abused, daughter, Christina slams her foster-mother, but good._____ Actress Faye Dunaway plays Joan Crawford with such unblinking ferocity that, at times, she comes mighty close to turning her portrayal into a literal parody-from-hell._____ Dunaway's over-the-top performance has got to be seen to be believed. At every possible opportunity she chews up the scenery into literal shreds._____ Yep. Mommie Dearest is, indeed, a genuine Hollywood oddity. There's no doubt about that._____ It clearly shows the viewer what little respect Hollywood has for its dead.
Tons of press on this classic. Borderline camp and the cinematography, sets, costumes are excellent and truthful. There are some intense, gripping, funny scenes that really stand out. Faye Dunaway nailed this performance, you know Crawford was a character in actual life, this has been documented. The is very entertaining for sure.
