This book is about an innocent little boy named stanley who was sent into a jail camp to look for a hidden tresure buried in the sand. In the end it was discovered that stanley was innocent,and he was sent home with all the buried gold and jewals he had found.

The boys build character daily by digging holes that are exactly five feet wide and five feet deep under a dried up lake because the Warden is looking for something.

Stanley Yelnats gets sent to a "boot camp" to dig holes, for committing theft, although he didn't really do it. At "boot camp", they dig holes searching for treasure. Will Stanley find the treasure, and break the family curse?
