Add a CommentFair – Watching the Detectives (2007) 91 min. starring Cillian Murphy and Lucy Liu. I could probably relate to Cillian Murphy’s character more than anyone. Here’s a guy that loves movies to the point that he spends most of his time with fictional characters than real people. Enter stage left, Lucy Liu, who throws a monkey wrench in Murphy’s existence. To her point “if you want to watch basketball, why not go out and play the game?” I did enjoy the relationship between the serious Murphy and the quirky Liu, though I did find Lucy Liu a tad too old for this part. As a comedy, the film does fall short; great ideas, forgettable execution. For instance, the director created a geek world in a VHS video store that is reminiscent of any comic book shop; the characters were interesting but they could've been so much more memorable.
