It's short, but EPIC!! It's definitely that I would like- horror and fantasy are great together.

Seriously creepy, but delightful at the same time. I agree with whoever compared it to the best of the Grimm fairy tales-this is dark like they were meant to be. Word of caution to parents of sensitive children, or children with active imaginations; don't let them read it right before bed!

Imaginative, creepy, and as grand an adventure one can have inside a house. Reminded me a bit of Miyazaki's wonderful "Spirited Away".

Coraline is geared towards children 8 and up. So you obviously don't want to be reading this to a five year old. This has often been described as a creepy Alice In Wonderland. I second the notion, however, it's a bit more comprehensive than Alice In Wonderland if you've ever read the books. Gaiman really knows how to create a unique and disturbing mood.

overrated and unsung

I adored this book, and it is one of my favorites. Neil Gaiman has become one of my favorite authors, his other books have not been a disappointment to me. "Coraline" is a one-of-a-kind, expertly put together and wonderfully told story. Once I began reading it, I couldn't put it down. I'm fourteen years old, and I honestly wasn't scared of this book at all. The two-people-stuck-together-in-the-white-gooey-gross-stuff-in-the-theatre thing was what came closest to disturbing me in the slightest. @liamlikesbooks: Please be aware that not everyone who looks through the comments has read the book before!

I couldn't get through the movie - just got really annoyed with it. I give every movie at least 20 minutes to capture my interest; the movie of Coraline didn't. What a treat to discover the book, which is really wonderful - a very engaging read. Way too creepy for little kids, I would think; our six-year-old would never make it through this! Maybe when she's older - a lot older....Great read for adults, though! Gaiman is an excellent writer.

I didn't know what to expect at first, but I am still haunted by the creepy parts of the narrative; the wonderful and scary world Coraline enters is amazing.

Coraline is bored in her new house, that is until she finds a tiny door that leads to a new, perfect world. The other mother treats her with lots of "love". Later, however, the other mother wants to sew buttons onto her eyes. Coraline barely escapes. When she goes back to save her parents, she sees 3 ghosts that also need their souls saved. Read this book to find out if Coraline saves them and gets out alive.

"No," said the cat. "Now, you people have names. That's because you don't know who you are. We know who we are, so we don't need names."
