"A surreal look at a bleak future. A strange mix of disturbing and funny - like an hilarious nightmare." Such a great movie! Highly recommended for dystopian fans.
My recollection is that this flick was panned horribly upon its release ... I didn't see it then. I now say "HA!" to those critics.
This is a very good movie that I didn't enjoy when I first watched it years ago. It sets up a very good dystopian future setting and has a fun, well-paced plot. In my opinion, this is Gilliam's masterpiece. I am glad that I enjoyed this so much as opposed to how much Baron Munchausen was a letdown. I loved the ending. Well done in every way. Acting, setting, effects and story.
Black comedy at its' best !!!
Last comment is spot on - A surreal look at a bleak future. A strange mix of disturbing and funny - like an hilarious nightmare. Deniero is great, the british humor is excellent, and the title/theme of the movie is all based on one song (Brazil) that gives you the feeling the director got to make the film particularily nightmare-fantasy like.
