Based on the true story of the Conlons and others falsely convicted of involvement in a terrorist bombing, this film is a magnificent character study examining injustice, family, and inner strength. Day-Lewis is a force of nature as Gerry Conlon, cast into prison for something he had no part in, his life changed from an irresponsible youth to defiance and personal conviction. Just as strong a performance comes from Pete Postlethwaite playing his father, wrongly incarcerated with him, as father and son find themselves for years getting to know each other and Gerry gets to see his father's inner strength. Emma Thompson appears as the attorney taking their case and filing an appeal. A powerful film that should have won Oscars, and instead got passed over for much less worthy material. One of the best films of the 90s.

Interesting film and extremely well written and acted concerning the English/Irish 'problems'. Also look at 'justice' in times of severe political unrest. Daniel Day Lewis, Pete Posthelwaite and Emma Thompson were oustanding.

Daniel Day-Lewis gives another good performance in this drama about the people wrongfully convicted in the Guilford Pub bombings.
