I enjoyed that this movie took you back to the main character's childhood, to see his development and how she became an adult. I wouldn't say this movie is fabulous, it's weird, is non-traditional in its approach and rather a tall tale. It is a the tale in the life of Kitten, I can't see how all transvestites would be this disfunctional in real life. As much as it breaks away from the burlesque template, it's still full of stereotypes. But it does a great job of getting you to slowly want the character to connect, to find her mother and to be more than she is at the moment.

A challenge: watch this, Red Eye, and The Wind That Shakes the Barley, and then tell me Cillian Murphy is not the best actor of his generation. But do I admire him, or is it his sassy '70s outfits?

Astonishing, sensitive performance by Cillian Murphy and witty, understated script place this movie well above your run-of-the-mill burlesque or prurient films about transvestites.
