Saw the movie first. I have to say the big screen can't display this much good writing. This is a story of a poor community with a determined volunteer. When she replaces her younger sister in a fight to the deaths no expects the impact she will have. The story shows how children must kill to survive and bring their community praises and riches. Best book I read all 2013!

Even though I hate the violence, the author's insensitivy, the romance, etc. (this is coming from a sixteen-year-old girl) there's still some things in the book that I like. I was sixteeen and my sister twelve when I read the book so that makes Katniss' volunteering in her sister's stead a lot more 'real' to me. I love Katniss because she's so human. She's not 'high, noble, faultless, etc.' only a teenager struggling to survive against a cruel dictatorship. Katniss is so real and I appreciate that Susan Collins made her that way.

I really respect the author's story here. Being in a fictional world where there is little food and hardship for people living in each district while in the capital it is the exact opposite. You feel for Katniss and see what she's going through in her district and how she's trying to handle it all by putting on a mask to hide her frustration towards the capital. Get a little detail into some of the characters like Effie and Cinna as well as interesting details with the mutts and Avox character that has been removed for the movie's purpose. Great book to read.

I LOVED THIS BOOK!!! The world-building was really well done, although in some parts imagery was lacking in some places. I found that I really liked it better after watching the movie though, so not sure what that says about this, but it is one of my all-time favorites.

I seriously dont know why, but i disliked this book. I decided to give it a try, because all my other friends liked it. I guess I am not interested in books with that kind of content. I like books like The Winnie Years, Popularity Papers, and books, that have kids going through real things, that happen to everyone

This book is the best book I had ever read. At first it started a little slow but soon it kicked right off, soaring into the depth of my fandoms. It has many heart-felt moments and is written in the point of view of Katniss, showing us her thoughts and giving us a few laughs at the same time. The next two books are even better. MUST READ!!!!!!!!!

In the distant future lies Panem, and all it's outlying districts. The ruler of all these districts is the Capitol, the cruel government of Panem. In the past years, the Capitol has went through what they call the "Dark Days". The Dark Days was when the surrounding districts decided to rise up against the Capitol, forcing the Capitol to fight back. The Capitol won, therefore naming the time of rebellion the "Dark Days". Now, to keep the order and chaos in check, the Capitol forces each of the 12 districts to choose one boy and one girl to participate in the annual Hunger games. Each one of the contestants in the Hunger Games are called "Tributes". The Hunger Games is a televised death match that airs on live TV. The winner of the Hunger Games is granted mass wealth and food for their district. There can only be one victor in the Hunger Games. Katniss Everdeen is caught right in the middle of all this when her beloved sister - the being that Katniss loves with all her heart - is selected to represent her district in the 74th Annual Hunger Games.

The Hunger Games is about a teen girl named Katniss EverDeen who volunteers in place of her younger sister at the annual Hunger Games. She finds herself feeling hunger, thirst and competitive with the other tributes from other districts. The major twist is that she is also technically enemies with Peetah, one who she shares a friendly history with. Will she come back alive in this game of life or death when the odds are against her? Read to find out!

This story takes place in a nation called Panem. Every year, they hold a Hunger Games to remind everyone of a battle that took place in District 13, a district that had tried to fight back against The Capitol of Panem's ways. The Hunger Games is a battle in which 2 tributes (male and female) from each district are chosen to fight in a desolate arena with only a few survival items and their wits to help them. The remaining live tribute is crowned victor of the Hunger Games once the rest have all been killed. Katniss Everdeen, a 16 year old girl from District 12, has her worst nightmare come true when her younger sister, Prim, is chosen to compete in the fight. As a desperate act to save her sister, Katniss volunteer's in place of 12 year old Prim. Now Katniss is thrown into a whirlwind of choices: information or secrets, friends or foes, life or love. In this action packed book by Suzanne Collins, Katniss must make sacrifices, determine whose side she's really on, and defend herself from 23 other tributes who have one goal; to kill her. Let the seventy-fourth annual Hunger Games begin!

Far ahead in the future lies the nation of Panem. Divided into 12 ( possibly 13) districts, it is ruled by the ever powerful , majestic Capitol. Long back, the districts had rebelled against the Capitol, and as a result, the Capitol holds the annual Hunger Games - a reality show where 2 kids from each district are picked from a draw to fight in an arena... To death. The sole remaining tribute gets to live. This book tells us the story of Katniss, a 16 yr. old girl who goes into the hunger games to save her sister. Katniss and the boy tribute from district 12, Peeta must together beat the odds for a chance to survive these horrific games. For in these games, there are no second chances. You win... or you die.

The Hunger Games is definitely an incredible story! Katniss Everdeen is thrown into the games against Peeta Mellark and other tributes. Never in her life has she felt so confused weighing the meanings of life: survival or love. This book teached us that love is powerful, like Katniss, it made her do crazy things. It's a must-read!

Cast: Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Lenny Kravitz, Wes Bentley, Toby Jones, Alexander Ludwig, Isabelle Fuhrman, Amandla Stenberg, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland Every year in the ruins of what was once North America, the nation of Panem forces each of its twelve districts to send a teenage boy and girl to compete in the Hunger Games. Part twisted entertainment, part government intimidation tactic, the Hunger Games are a nationally televised event in which "Tributes" must fight with one another until one survivor remains. Pitted against highly-trained Tributes who have prepared for these Games their entire lives, Katniss is forced to rely upon her sharp instincts as well as the mentorship of drunken former victor Haymitch Abernathy. If she's ever to return home to District 12, Katniss must make impossible choices in the arena that weigh survival against humanity and life against love. THE HUNGER GAMES is directed by Gary Ross, with a screenplay by Gary Ross and Suzanne Collins and Billy Ray, and produced by Nina Jacobson's Color Force in tandem with producer Jon Kilik. Suzanne Collins' best-selling novel, the first in a trilogy published by Scholastic that has over 16 million copies in print in the United States alone, has developed a massive global following. It has spent more than 160 consecutive weeks/more than three consecutive years to date on The New York Times bestseller list since its publication in September 2008, and has also appeared consistently on USA Today and Publishers Weekly bestseller lists.
