The Dunnes have set off on a ten day boat trip, a trip that hopefully will bring them closer together, despite the fact that the father, Stuart is staying behind on land. But only an hour into the trip they're already falling apart. The teenage daughter plans to drown herself, and the teenage boy is high on drugs. Ten-year-old Ernie is near catatonic. But their mother Anne, with the help of her brother-in-law Jeff, is insistent on pulling everyone together, once and for all. Just when things start to take a turn for the better, disaster strikes. Stuart is left to pick up the pieces and find his family--but he is eager to start a brand new life. Maybe he's a little too eager.--From publisher description.

Loved this book! It felt like I was actually there with the Dunne family. Another great read from James Patterson.

For me this was one of his best - a good plot with interesting twists and turns.

Picked it up in the "Fastlane" section @ White Oaks 'cause it's tough to get new James Patterson books right away, otherwise. And now I know why it was there: It's a very quick read, indeed! Like Tamra says above - a book read in one day - in my case - a lazy Sunday afternoon. I thought it was great in the end, albeit somewhat slow in getting started. It has murder... mystery... a really bad villain... and a heroine mom (like me, lol) - what more could a girl ask of our author? He's really quite good that way - isn't he - that James Patterson? The Publisher says, "SAIL takes "Lost" and "Survivor" to a new level of terror.". I say: Throw in a modern-day "Swiss Family Robinson" because this book's a real adventure, with an untypically quirky family - the Dunnes - and you have another James Patterson quick paced page turner. It has enough red herrings and twists in the plot to make you thirst for a hint as to what actually abounds, or is hiding around the corner. And I think you'll like the mother in this book, Katherine Dunne. She's not perfect, and her children are deeply troubled long after the death of their father - her ex - but she rises above the despair to constantly deal with the chaos around her and do what she needs to do to save her children. Whatever can go wrong to her family - does almost right from the start, as both the antagonist and his motive are revealed unusually early for a Patterson novel. Maybe that's the contribution author Howard Roughan adds to "Sail". Roughan is no slouch himself in giving us witty and sharp dialogue thrillers, and here he tag-teams with Patterson to give the story a slightly different edge. Have fun reading "Sail". It won't take you long, and you'll feel charged with that kind of energy that comes from having discovered a new read with lots of exciting mystery and inventive plot twists and turns.
