Add a CommentFinally! I figured out who Wendy Pepper reminds me of, both facially, and in the little world of reality TV, strategically: Leni Riefenstahl. I like this series, but can never figure out what the judges want. Haute couture genius? A designer who can work with established retailers and fashion houses? A tailor who follows the client's instructions to the letter? In the end, it comes down to what the TV producers want.
Riveting. I thought I had very little interest in fashion (I wear t-shirts and Costco Kirkland $12.99 jeans) but I can't help but be drawn into this hopeful, affirming series. Project Runway's got the perfect host and mentor, who are caricatures from the get go. I don't like the fact that the producers have the final say; i.e., even a bad designer, if he or she is gonna bring in the ratings, will stay sometimes. Overall, though, they seem to be choosing wisely. This is a series that can be watched over again, for inspiration and for recognizing how much was missed upon initial viewing.
There are so many ways to engage with this series. I love watching the designers grapple with the challenges, I enjoy watching the rivalries between the competitors and there is also a lot to learn about team work, communication skills and professionalism.
