This perfectly balanced and carefully thought-out animal tale -- think "Cricket in Times Square," only more serious and suspenseful -- will enthrall youthful and adult audiences alike. All the more striking for its unusual (for the genre) protagonist: a brave, perceptive lady mouse who is a caring single mother to boot! Suitable for family read-aloud storytimes. A timeless story, one of the very best.

I enjoyed reading this book as I grew up watching the movie. In some parts it elaborated further on parts that are short or not included in the movie, a better understanding of the story in general. But other parts of the movie ARE NOT in the book, the happen to be some of my favourite parts & I wasn't expecting that, so I'm somewhat disappointed. If you love the movie, I think you should read the book or vs.

Mrs. Frisby is a widowed field mouse with four young children wintering in the garden of the farm. One of them, Timothy, has fallen ill and can't be moved. The problem is that the time for the move to summer home has come. If they don't move, they will be killed when the farmer plows his field.

Mrs. Frisby turns to the rats that live under the rosebush for help, and she learns that her late husband had a history that she had no idea about. In doing so, Mrs. Frisby finds that she is pulled into something far more dangerous and fantastic that she could ever imagine.

This book may be almost forty years old, but it is still one of the best animal fantasy novels for children out there. This is one that a modern child could still enjoy. Go get this.
