Although this could be the story of genocide of many other nations, Rusesabagina along with all those who fought against or were victims of the atrocities, make it unique to Rwanda. Based on true events, this extraordinary film reflects the well-known fact that the world community will not intervene for solely humanitarian reasons. Rather, it will act in accordance to its own political and economic self interests. If you liked this movie and are interested in seeing another that shows the U.N. at “work”, I recommend “No Man’s Land”.
This is one of the few movies everyone should see.
Very sad movie.
Gripping drama.
An amazing portrayal of the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. Every time I watch this movie it moves me to tears.
Disturbing portrayal of a time and place the world tried to forget. Excellent demonstration of the positive impact one person can have and, in contrast, the level of cruelty humans can inflict on each other.
Excellent movie about Rwanda in 1994! Don Cheadle gives an outstanding interpretation.
Pretty good story, might be a good "double feature" with Schindler's list. The character of Colonel Oliver (played by Nick Nolte), is pretty obviously mainly based on General Romeo Dallaire. This movie would pair well with a viewing of "Shake Hands with the Devil", based on Gen. Dallaire's book. Also, Nick Nolte's Canadian Colonel's uniform has several mistakes, which are annoying as it would have been so simple to get it correct.
Outstanding!
